This Toshiba Satellite A200 service manual describes how to perform maintenance on the hardware service of Toshiba Personal Computer Satellite A200, called M100 series in this manual. The procedures described in this manual are designed to assist service technicians in isolating the defective (FRU) field replaceable units and replace them in the field.

In this manual, four kinds of messages are used to bring important information to your attention. Each of these messages will be shown in italic e identified as shown below. "Danger" indicates the existence of a hazard that could result in death or serious bodily injury failure to observe the safety instruction. "Warning" indicates the existence of a hazard that could result in bodily injury if the safety instruction is not observed. "Caution" indicates the existence of a hazard that may result in property damage, failure to observe the safety instruction. "Note" contains general information related to its insurance service.

Incorrect computer repair can result in dangers to security. Toshiba requires that service technicians and authorized distributors or service providers ensure that the following safety precautions are strictly met. Be sure to tighten the screws with a suitable screwdriver. If a screw is not fully attached, it could release, which could create a short circuit, which could cause overheating, smoke or fire. If you replace the battery or the RTC battery, be sure to use only the same a battery or equivalent recommended by Toshiba. The wrong battery installation may cause the battery to burst.

The Toshiba Satellite A200 service manual is divided into the following parts: Chapter 1 Overview of the hardware describes the series M100 and each FRU system unit. Chapter 2 troubleshooting procedures explain how to diagnose and solve problems of the FRU. Chapter 3 test and diagnosis describes how to perform the test and diagnosis for maintenance operations. The replacement Chapter 4 procedures describe the removal and replacement of FRUS. Appendices the appendices describe the following: Handling the LCD module, Board layout,  Pin assignments, Keyboard scan/character codes, Key layout, Screw torque list, Reliability.

This manual uses the following formats to describe, identify and highlight terms and operating procedures. In the first appearance and provided that it is necessary for the clarification, acronyms are enclosed in parentheses after its definition. For example: Read Only Memory (ROM). The keys are used in the text to describe many operations. The symbol of the key as it appears in the keyboard is printed in bold. Some operations require that you use two or more keys simultaneously. We identify such operations by the symbols of the main keys separated by a plus sign (+). For example, Ctrl + pause (pause) means that it should hold down the Ctrl key and at the same time press pause (pause). If three keys are used, hold down the two first and, at the same time, press the third.

The main battery the battery charging is controlled by a microprocessor's power that is mounted on the base plate. Power supply microprocessor controls if the load is enabled or disabled and detects a full charge when battery and AC adapter are connected to the computer. The system charges the battery using fast load or a load of drip. When the AC adapter is connected, there are two types of loads fast: fast charging when the system is turned off and the normal load when the system is on.

Troubleshooting flowchart if you know the location of the malfunction, go directly to the appropriate section of this chapter. If the problem is not specified, use the flowchart in Figure 2-1 as a guide to determine what troubleshooting procedures should be implemented. Before performing any troubleshooting procedure, check the following: ask the user if a password is registered and, if so, ask you to enter the password. Check with the customer that Toshiba Windows Vista is installed on the hard disk. Operating systems that were not pre-installed by Toshiba can cause equipment to malfunction. Ensure that all optional equipment have been removed from the computer. Make sure that the floppy drive, if installed, is empty. If there is no FDD module installed, you must use an external FDD to run diagnostic tests.
